Materials Required: one 6" wide knit panel, backed with iron-on interfacing (Instructions are at the end of this pattern.) Iron-on tricot interfacing, such as EasyKnit or Fusi-Knit, which is made especially for knits. One raglan sweatshirt with all stitching on the inside (no topstitched armholes). One purchased collar (the kind used on polo shirts.) Matching sewing thread. Zigzag sewing machine. Serger (optional). Tailors’ chalk for marking insert opening.
3/8" seam allowances are used throughout. Most sweatshirts are knitted tubular, and do not come with side seams. We will be creating side seams when adding the insert, and the completed garment will be approximately 1 1/2" smaller around. Most people prefer to purchase sweatshirts one size larger than normal to allow for loss in the added seam allowances. Prewash sweatshirt and dry completely to eliminate shrinking of completed garment. Steam press sweatshirt to remove wrinkles.
