Materials Required: Approximately 6 oz 4-ply Knitting Worsted
Gauge: 5 sts, 7 rows = 1"
Tension: Approximately 5. This will vary with brand and color of yarn.
Make 2 alike. CO 40 sts with WY and ravel cord, ending COR. Change to MC. E-wrap CO over working needles and thread carriage. RC 000. K even to RC 48. T9. K 1 row. Relatch ribbing, either K1, P1, or K2, P2 as desired. It is usually easier to convert to ribbing after every 20 rows, rather than knitting the entire length and then converting, but this is your preference. Latch off, pulling 2nd stitch through first, 3rd through 2nd, etc. Pull yarn tail through last st to fasten off.
Sew seam, leaving a 1" long opening for thumb, beginning 1 1/2" below top edge. For "Fingers", tack top edges together with matching yarn in three equally spaced points, or try on hand to check for a more precise placement. Work in yarn ends.
CO 40 sts with WY and ravel cord, ending COR. Change to MC. E-wrap CO over working needles and thread carriage. RC 000. K even to RC 720. T9. K 1 row. Relatch ribbing, either K1, P1, or K2, P2 as desired. It is usually easier to convert to ribbing after every 20 rows, rather than knitting the entire length and then converting. Latch off, pulling 2nd stitch through first, 3rd through 2nd, etc. Pull yarn tail through last st to fasten off. Work in yarn tails.
Optional. Add fringe to each end. Wrap yarn around a hardback book, then slide scissors across the pages to cut. To join to scarf, insert latch tool through first stitch. Take 4 strands of yarn and fold in half. Catch the fold with the latch tool and pull loop part way through, then catch yarn tails and pull them through this loop. Snug loop up securely against fabric. Repeat in every 2nd or every 3rd stitch across. Fringe opposite end the same.
This hat is basically a rectangle, 20" wide and 10" long. Adjust either width or length as desired by adding or subtracting stitches/rows. CO 100 sts with WY and ravel cord, ending COR. Change to MC. E-wrap CO over working needles and thread carriage. RC 000. K even to RC 70, relatching ribbing, either K1, P1, or K2, P2 as desired, after every 20 rows. Using the single prong transfer tool, transfer EOS to adjacent needle. K 2 rows.
Clip yarn, leaving a 16" tail. Thread tail into yarn needle. *Insert tip of needle from back to front through first stitch, lift up and back to pop stitch off machine needle and onto yarn needle; take yarn needle on through stitch, and slide it onto yarn tail. Repeat from * until all stitches are on yarn tail. Gather up and fasten securely. Sew seam downwards from top until approximately 3" above CO edge. Turn hat inside out and sew seam from this reversed side. This also reverses the seam, and allows the cuff to be turned up without the seam showing. Remove WY and ravel cord. Work in yarn ends.
